The First Thanksgiving

In November 1621, after the Pilgrims' first corn harvest proved successful, Governor William Bradford organized a celebratory feast and invited a group of the fledgling colony's Native American allies, including the Wampanoag chief Massasoit.

When Thanksgiving became a holiday

Thanksgiving officially became a holiday by President Abraham Lincoln, but The Pilgrims started the idea of Thanksgiving. President Roosevelt officially made the holiday on the 4th Thursday of November.

What they ate at the First Thanksgiving

Turkey was plentiful in Plymouth Colony, but we don't know for certain that it was served at the meal. The First Thanksgiving included the foods, ham, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash.
